FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. What facilities are at the campsites?
A. Nothing! Zip, zero, zilch. We've made some of the most beautiful spots on the property accessible for camping, and set up a campfire for your use. You'll be in a remote outback location and need to bring all your own camping gear, including water.
Q. Can I get to Holowiliena in my little car?
A. Usually, yes. There is 50km of dirt road from Cradock and it's normally accessible in a standard family car. Roads are closed after significant rain and we refund or postpone bookings if your visit is interrupted by road closures.
Q. Can I stay at Holowiliena in my caravan or campervan?
A. We have lots of caravans and campervans visit, but we don’t have powered or serviced sites. Our property will suit if you are happy with a remote bush campsite, with your own power and water supply.
Q. What can we do when we visit?
A. We recommend not doing much at all! A Station Stay at Holowiliena is designed NOT to be filled with activities. We are a remote sheep station open to visitors, offering a different experience to a hotel or caravan park.
Guests come to experience outback life, enjoying peace and quiet away from the crowds. This is your opportunity to get outside and offline. Think campfires, long walks, that book you've been wanting to read for ages, board games, and time to talk with the people you love.
Phone ahead to check availability of our most popular experience, the Holowiliena Station History Tour. Lucky guests might find The Outback Blacksmith in the 1850s forge.
Guests can explore our part of the Flinders Ranges on foot, bike or by 4WD on our station tracks.
Q. Do you have 4WD tracks?
A. Yes, we have 2 self-drive station tracks to explore. They're not hard-core four wheel driving, but you need a 4WD with good clearance to drive the tracks.
Q. Can I bring my dog?
A. Our campsites are dog friendly; we ask you to be mindful of normal pet etiquette and clean up after your animals.
We do not allow pets inside accommodation. We have active feral animal control programmes so we recommend keeping pets in the car when exploring the station.
Q. Can I book a tour?
A. Tour availability is limited by farm work commitments - please phone or email prior to booking accommodation.
Q. How far is Holowiliena from the Flinders Ranges National Park?
A. It's about 2 hours drive from Holowiliena to Wilpena Pound in the central Flinders Ranges - an achievable day trip.
Q. How far is Holowiliena from Adelaide?
A. We allow 5 hours for the trip. It's an easy weekend getaway from Adelaide.
Q. Is there mobile phone coverage or wifi?
A. No, and we think that's a good thing. This is time to relax and unwind, so let your special people know where you'll be, and switch off for a few days. Trust us, your teenagers will love you for it - eventually :-)
If you need to check messages on wifi, we can give you a limited amount of wifi access at the Homestead. We highly recommend avoiding this if you can, as the digital detox is very rewarding!
Q. How can my family contact me in an emergency?
A. Our booking emails can be forwarded as emergency contact details.
Q. Can I visit in Summer?
A. We close for guests from October until April. The weather can be unpredictable during this time, and we've learnt it's sometimes too hot for guests to enjoy a holiday at Holowiliena.
