FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Can I bring my dog?
A. Our campsites are dog friendly; we ask you to be mindful of normal pet etiquette. We do not allow pets inside accommodation. We bait for feral animals so we suggest keeping pets in the car when exploring the station.
Q. Can I get to Holowiliena in my little car?
A. Usually, yes. There is 50km of dirt road from Cradock and it's normally accessible in a standard family car. Roads are closed after significant rain and we refund or postpone bookings if your visit is interrupted by road closures.
Q. What can we do when we visit?
A. Holowiliena is a Station Stay destination in itself: most guests come to experience life on an outback sheep station, enjoying some peace and quiet away from the crowds. This is your opportunity to get outside and offline.
We're all about the history here and recommend you join our station history tour, at least on your first visit! Lucky guests often find The Outback Blacksmith at work in the forge, and we invite you to visit our little School of the Air schoolroom (when available).
Guests can explore our part of the Flinders Ranges on foot, bike or by 4WD on our station tracks.
Q. Do you have 4WD tracks?
A. Yes, we have 2 station tracks to explore. They're not hard-core four wheel driving, but you will require 4WD to drive the whole track.
Q. What facilities are at the campsites?
A. Nothing! Zip, zero, zilch. We've made some of the most beautiful spots on the property accessible for camping, and set up a campfire for your use. You'll be in a private spot where you can't see any other campers.
Q. Can I book a tour?
A. Sure, we'd love to show you around! Tick the box when booking or phone to confirm.
Q. How far is Holowiliena from the Flinders Ranges National Park?
A. It's about 2 hours drive from Holowiliena to Wilpena Pound in the central Flinders Ranges - an achievable day trip.
Q. How far is Holowiliena from Adelaide?
A. We allow 5 hours for the trip. It's an easy weekend getaway from Adelaide.
Q. Is there mobile phone coverage or wifi?
A. No, and we think that's a good thing. This is time to relax and unwind, so let your special people know where you'll be, and switch off for a few days. Trust us, your teenagers will love you for it - eventually :-)
If you need to check messages on wifi, we can give you a limited amount of wifi access in the School of the Air schoolroom. We highly recommend avoiding this if you can, as the digital detox is very rewarding!
